Associate Commissioner Office of Mental Health & Substance Use Programs, Texas Health and Human Services Commission

Trina Ita is the Associate Commissioner for the Office of Mental Health and Substance Use Programs with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and the Single State Authority (SSA) Representative for Texas for the Mental Health and Substance Use Block Grants. Trina holds a Master of Arts Degree in Community Agency Counseling, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology. She has over 30 years of experience working with diverse populations in the provision of mental health and substance use services. She has provided addictions counseling as well as mental health counseling services in private practice and with entities in both the public and private sectors. Prior to her role as Associate Commissioner for the Office of Mental Health and Substance Use Programs and SSA for Texas, Ms. Ita served as the Deputy Associate Commissioner for the Office of Mental Health Coordination where her primary role was to chair the Statewide Behavioral Health Coordinating Council ensuring the development and implementation of the Texas Statewide Behavioral Health Strategic Plan. In her current role, as Associate Commissioner for the Office of MHSU Programs, Ms. Ita has purview over the largest array of behavioral health contracted services in HHSC system ensuring the implementation of mental health and substance use care for children, youth and adults receiving services in both urban and rural communities across Texas.
