Karl Rathjen, MD

Assistant Chief of Staff, Scottish Rite for Children; Professor, Department of Orthopaedics, University of Texas Southwestern; President, Bette Rathjen Foundation for Emotional Health

Dr. Karl Rathjen is a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon at Scottish Rite for Children. He is a professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and is an Assistant Chief of Staff at Scottish Rite for Children. Dr. Rathjen is also President of the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital Foundation.

Away from his medical career he serves as President of the Bette Rathjen Foundation for Emotional Health and has served in leadership roles with The Goodness Web, Ronald McDonald House Dallas, Camp John Marc, Circle 10 Boy Scouts and Highland Park Presbyterian Church.

Dr. Rathjen is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery; the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, the Scoliosis Research Society, the Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Society (President from June 2016 through June 2017) and the American Orthopaedic Association. His clinical and research interests include spine deformity and lower extremity reconstruction in children with neuromuscular and syndromic conditions
